Couple Reminders

Ha. You can tell I'm busy when even my blogs are quiet. ;)

A couple reminders, to start off:

  • Order tickets now. Saturday's seats will go fast.
  • BUT please order only the tickets you need... I don't want empty seats in the house because people ordered one "just in case my aunt decides to come, but I'm not sure"
  • Some of you never brought in an "interesting object" for drama ... that's an easy 5 points... don't lose out.
  • We won't have drama class this Friday or next Friday due to the field trip & then the day off. Thursdays, of course, are normal schedule.
MND Announcements
If you've been asked to bring in costume items or props for yourself or someone else, please make sure those are at school by Monday (2/16).

I'd like you to wear the shoes you'll wear onstage at all rehearsals from this point on
. Bring them to rehearsal and I'll show you where you can store them if you'd like to leave them at school.

The next few weeks are gonna be busy -- the show opens in three weeks! Wow!
You pretty much need to be dead to miss a full-run rehearsal. Check your calendar ... and clear it of all conflicts.

We will showcase a MND scene at Open House. I plan at the moment to have the mechanicals do the tail end of their "in the woods" scene up through Titania's falling in love w/ Bottom (but without all the fairies, for simplicity's sake). More on that soon...

Also, I'll ask a few of you to come to Open House in costume to sell tickets and be walking advertisements.

Question
What do you need help with for MND?

What part of your role is giving you trouble? What skill do you seem to lack? What stage stuff makes you uncomfortable?

Post a comment to let me know how you're doing.... if you have anything private to say, you can email me at lori@rameyweb.com or catch me at school.

Amazing that it'll all be over in 3 weeks.
Time flies....

I have a question about what my costume is going to be like? That would help A LOT when it comes to deciding shoes,etc...
I think I should have a fro! :)

What is my costume going to be? I guess I'm having trouble getting into character. I can't think of anything else that I need help with, because I haven't had many practices.

in answer to above questions:
Philostrate:
sort of "woman's business suit," but longer skirt, methinks. Got anything in gray or another solid color?

hehe... the 'fro cracks me up. =)

Hippolyta:
I hope this doesn't sound odd, but I think you can use what you wore to superhero day as the foundation of an excellent costume. The red cape picks up on the crimson color theme of Theseus's court ... the black looked good on you and will match Theseus's black ... but we should add something a little "wild" (like a wide belt or scarf or something) and big earrings ... put your hair up.

Hermia:
Actually, your scenes have gotten better everytime you've done them. You're not yet as confident as you were with the "Antigone" scene you did with Bettina. Keep working for that level of "naturalness" and keep asking questions at rehearsals until you figure out what you need to do.

And watch some dating / engaged /newlywed couples this week specifically to observe their physical contact.

Helena:
Yeah, that's the only way to solve the line problem. =) And if you skip a line in performance...such is life on stage. The guys can cover for you by slipping their lines in anyway or interrupting you (if that fits the spot).

Puck:
try barefoot instead of with socks. Your bare feet might be less "slippery" than socks on those risers. And remember that we intend to carpet the risers, which will provide more traction. Until then, be careful. =)

Hey,

Im sure even if you gals(guys)miss a line were not all gonna start booeing are anything. Most of the time the audience wont even notice, especially if Nate and Sam do good at covering.Anyway Im worried but not worried.Just have to think positive right.

well, i was gonna be the 3rd to commnt...but i waited too long apparently..

3 weeks?!? Wow, that's a good thing and a bad thing. good because there wont be as much stress once its over, yet bad because there isn't as much time left to rehearse and get everthing together.

should i bring my boots to rehearsals tomorrow, like is that what you want me to wear? well if i dont talk to you before school, i'll ask you then.

what am i wearing for the P&T scene at the end of the play?

you know when i read that the play is going to be over in 3 weeks that kinda made me sad :( i mean its a pain to stay after school but it has been fun.

Good deal on my costume. Does anyone have anything "wild" I can use?

More Answers:
Demetrius: Don't try to make the audience "feel sorry" for you. Just try to play the scene honestly -- that you don't want Helena's attention right now ... and Hermia's angry reaction surprises you. If Hermia is angry enough, we'll feel sorry for you.

I have a hard time with the extremes. I've found that I can act kind of angry at Oberon and kind of in love with Bottom, but "over-the-top" emotions are difficult for me to achieve without trying REALLY REALLY hard.

Question: I know I'm wearing that brown and white shirt, but what kind of skirt do you want me to wear?
