Drama Class and 8th Graders

For those who might be wondering:

The drama class and Midsummer Night's Dream are two separate entities. MND auditions are open to anyone in 6th and up. All that stuff below about auditions & rehearsals -- that's all MND. Mostly a December/January/February after-school thing.

The drama class is a regular (half-credit) course in the high school that focuses on acting. Depending on how many students take it, I've got two to four slots open for interested 8th graders.

I'm offering the open slots in the drama class to 8th graders by audition during the first week of school (probably Tuesday, August 16th). You'll get specific instructions on the first day of school regarding the audition. Basically, you need to show me that you already have basic platform skills necessary before moving on to acting skills. You'll read something you've prepared (like a 1 minute monologue) and do a "cold reading" of a scene.

I hope the 8th graders who really enjoyed last year's drama unit will consider auditioning for a spot in the drama class. But if you want to stay with the regular schedule or if you don't land a spot, remember that you are welcome to audition for Midsummer Night's Dream -- in fact, I encourage you to try out! Dream big! ;)

Hippie Fairies?

With the proliferation of hippie clothing and style this year, maybe we should consider a 60s theme for Midsummer? Or at least the faries? Hey, you never know what might happen if you eat those magic mushrooms . . . . ;)

I've been collecting ideas for our play from my "experts" here at Covenant. And I can't wait to tackle the whole drama class come August. This is gonna be so much fun . . . and work . . . but fun work. =)
